Harry Lee Smith, 81, died Saturday, December 6, 2008, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio following a massive was the youngest of three sons born to Mose A. and Meta Schwab Smith of Port Arthur, Texas. He graduated from Port Arthur Jefferson High School in January 1945 and served 18 months with the Army Air Corps. After his honorable discharge in October 1946, he earned bachelor and master”s degrees from the University of Texas in August 31, 1956, he married Marcelle Dobie of San Marcos, also a UT graduate. For all of his professional career, he worked as a petroleum geologist in Corpus Christi, where the couple raised their family. In 1983, they moved to Boerne, Texas, where he retired in the early addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by daughter Sheryl Smith-Rodgers and husband James Hearn of Blanco, Texas, son Steven H. Smith and wife Laura of Katy, Texas, grandchildren Patrick and Lindsey Rodgers, and Brandon Smith. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Jeanette H. Smith of Austin, Texas and Elizabeth Smith of Port Neches, Texas, brothers-in-law James F. Dobie of San Marcos, Texas and Dudley R. Dobie, Jr. and wife Saza of Wimberley, Texas, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Mose A. Smith Jr. of Port Arthur and Dr. Charles G. Smith of Port was an avid golfer who loved his family and friends, his country, his orange cat Smitty, astronomy, football, the Spurs, and Civil War history. He especially loved his dog, Charlie, who”s buried in Corpus Christi. More so, he loved his wife so dearly. He enjoyed eating lemony sweets, such as lemon drops and lemon meringue pie. He was a devoted, fun-loving grandfather who liked to hike, swim, light fireworks, and get into trouble with his grandkids whenever he could.
