Harry William Payne, 81, was born on March 24, 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up in the Westport Community. Son to George Joseph Payne and Wilhelmina ( nee Kerchner) Payne. He traveled the world in the Merchant Marine as a Chief Engineer for over 30 years and 2 years active Army as E-4 Heavy Machine Gunner.

Harry better known as Uncle Harry to his over 90 nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  When he entered a room the atmosphere changed to laughter and exciting stories of his world travels.  Talking with him you knew you were the center of his world, which is a big deal since he’s been to almost every country with a port. Each of our lives are “Gooder” because of Harry.

His favorite place he traveled in the world was Antarctica. Each time he came back he shared an endless number of pictures of ice breakers, wildlife and his favorite penguins.

If you could find him, he would be out telling stories and laughing with his best friends John & John or with his many friends playing cards.  He built a home to bring his large family and friends together whether he was in this country or away.  He wanted you to bring a chair up to the water, have a beer and laugh together.  His dream home hosted countless – birthdays, graduation parties, reunions, a couple spatuatular weddings and most importantly the endless everyday weekend get-togethers.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, and all eleven siblings: Sisters Margaret Atkinson, Marie Floyd, Elizabeth Hess, Doris Payne, Anna Roper, and Brothers Joseph Payne, John Payne, Bernard Payne, George Payne, Francis Payne, and Tom Payne.
