Harry Eugene Gravlin Jr., 92, of Cromwell, CT, formerly of West Hartford, beloved husband of the late Madeline (Streeter) Gravlin, died peacefully on Friday (March 13, 2009). He was born in Detroit, MI, the son of the late Harry E. and Jenny (Sinclair) Gravlin. Harry is survived by his daughter and two sons, Janet Stafford and her husband Richard of Windsor Ct, Roger Gravlin and his wife Barbara of Eugene OR and Randall Gravlin and his wife Peggy of Topsfield, MA. His legacy also includes six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Harry married the love of his life, Madeline R. Streeter, in 1941. They had four children and danced their way through 65 years of married life. Madeline predeceased Harry in 2006 and his daughter, Barbara, died in 1956 at the age of eleven. Harry graduated from Wayne State University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and the University of Michigan with an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Harry was a production manager at Ford Motor Company and was the first Ford employee to be chosen for a Sloan Fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management. After 18 years with Ford, Harry and his family moved to West Hartford, CT in 1959 where he worked for Hamilton Standard and Colt Firearms. As an entrepreneur he founded two companies – Machining Technology Corp. and Numeritec Corp. Harry, an Eagle Scout, was a Boy Scout Troop 163 Leader.
