Harriet Ann Stapleton, 84, of Post Rd, Charlestown, RI, died peacefully on February 1, 2007, in   Stuart, FL.                  .

 

Born in Patterson, NJ, on July 16, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edgar and Cecil May (Pulhamus) Watts.

 

Harriet was a 1943 graduate of Rhode Island State College now the University of Rhode Island with a major in English and a minor in chemistry.

 

She met her beloved husband, Clement J. Stapleton while racing sail boats in Little Narragansett Bay and they married in 1949.  Sadly he predeceased her on June 24, 1999.

 

 Active in Girl Scouting she was a life long member, she was a Troop Leader, Leader Trainer, Camp Ranger and neighborhood chairman.  She received numerous awards and recognition for her years of dedicated service to scouting and in 1987 she earned the outstanding volunteer award.

 

Harriet and Clement loved to travel and together they did so throughout the United States and Canada from the comfort of their motor home.  They had been long time members of the GMC Nor Easters.

 

Harriet loved Charlestown and had been a dedicated member of the Board of Canvassers.

 

She was a long time member of the Church of the Holy Spirit.

 

She will be sadly missed by her daughter Lisa Stapleton Piver and her husband Andrew Piver with whom Harriet spent  her final years with in Port St. Lucie  Florida and Charlestown.  She also leaves her brother Charles E. Watts of Brookfield, FL and several nieces and nephews.
