Harold W. Gunkel, age 94, of Tipton, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at IU Health Tipton Hospital with his loving family by his side. Harold was born in Tipton County, Indiana on September 30, 1927, to his parents, Earl & Isabelle (Redmon) Gunkel.  On January 17, 1950, Harold married the love of his life, Jenny Timmons.  They shared 71 years together, raising two wonderful daughters, and shared a lifetime of love and happiness.

Harold was a Tipton High School graduate, class of 1945.  After school, Harold proudly served in the United States Army.  He worked at Kingston Products, now known as Steel Parts, where he retired after 44 years.  The also worked his family’s farms, helping in any way that was needed.

Harold was a very hard-working man, always driven and motivated.  He was meticulous in his work, whether that be for his job or a project, he put his whole heart into it.  Harold belonged to a left-handed team on a local bowling league where he spent many nights teaching his daughters how to bowl.  In his down time, he could often be found watching a western movie or fishing.

Harold was a true family man.  His family meant the world to him, and he was so proud of each and every one of them!  He was so kind and loving, just two of many traits he passed on to his children, grandchildren, and great grandson.

Those left to carry on Harold’s legacy of love is his wife, Jenny Gunkel; daughters, Susan (Stephen) Schonegg and Julie (James) Akard; grandchildren, Michelle Rector, Matthew (Carrie) Rector, Brenda Akard; great grandson, Gavin Rector; sister, Virginia Horton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
