Harold R. “Woody” Wittbecker, 85, of Freeport, passed over into God’s loving light, on Sunday, January 30, 2005, at FHN Memorial Hospital.

Born October 28, 1919 in Freeport the son of Harry and Mable (Oswalt) Wittbecker. On May 21, 1949 Harold and Mona Chappell were married in Freeport. He was a World War II Army veteran and a P.O.W. in Germany. He worked for the White Line Taxi Service as a dispatcher for many years. He then worked for Bill’s Siding doing home improvement until his retirement. He loved camping up north with his family and friends. He loved bowling in his younger days. He did carpenter work for all of his children on their homes as well as helping many friends with remodeling projects.

Woody will be deeply missed by his wife, Mona of Freeport; 4 sons, Bruce (Donna) Wittbecker of Fulton, Todd Wittbecker, Craig (Melissa) Wittbecker and Les Wittbecker all of Freeport; 3 daughters, Marcia (Don) Martin, Lynne (Jim) Kloepping, and Vicki Long all of Freeport; 1 daughter in-law, Mary Ann Wittbecker of Sparks, Nevada; 1 son in-law, Ed Amato of California; 13 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Doris Larson, Betty (Laverne) Stubbe, Jean (William) Schlamp, and Jeanette Kunkle all of Freeport; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 daughters, Cynthia Babb and Carol Ann Amato; 1 son, David Wittbecker; 3 brothers; 4 sisters; 4 infant grandchildren.
