Harold Nelson Geer passed away peacefully after a brief illness on December 31, 2015 at age 87. Born on May 24, 1928 to late parents Myrtle and Elmer Geer, he married his high school sweetheart Norma (Hanson) Geer at age 18. A lifelong resident of Lebanon, Conn., Harold was a dairy farmer and later worked as a dairy inspector for the State of Connecticut’s Department of Agriculture.

Those who knew and loved Harold knew him as a true “stubborn old Yankee.” A farmer at heart, Harold loved gardening, birding and exploring everywhere from battlefields to old canals. He was passionate about tracking his family’s genealogy, which led to a deep knowledge of Civil War history and the Oregon Trail.

He was an active member of the Lebanon Historical Society, the Shenandoah Civil War Association and the Santa Fe Trail Association, and served as the national president of the Geer Family Association for three
