Harold “Jack” Grimes, age 83, died on Friday, February 26, 2021, at home with his wife Peggy by his side in Des Moines, IA.
He was born June 10, 1937, in Des Moines, to Harold Jackson and Frances (Ruby) Grimes, the oldest of their two children. Jack was a veracious reader, author, and held a master’s in psychology. He lived by the creed, “The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.”
Jack joined the Iowa Air National Guard before going on to proudly serve 22 years on active duty with the U.S. Air Force. He was decorated for his service in Vietnam as a navigator for the F-4 Phantom, where he flew 205 combat missions. Continually hailed for his excellence as an accomplished radar systems operator, Jack’s career as an aviator brought him and his family tremendous pride.
After retiring as a Major from the Air Force, Jack dedicated 25+ years of his life to Child Serve as a Human Factors Engineer, his inventive solutions created a lasting contribution to this organization and his presence there will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; his children, Matt (Rhonda) Grimes; his grandchildren, Joshua (Selenda) Grimes and Kristina (Daniel) Brown; his great grandchildren, Caleb and Cody Grimes; and his brother, Jeff (Sue) Grimes.
