Harold E. Rathbun Sr. 95, of 66 Palmer Neck Road Pawcatuck died November 1, 2006 at his home after a short illness.  He was the husband of the late Alice Lee (Adams) Rathbun who passed in 2003.   They had been married for 67 years.

 

He was born in North Stonington and was the son of the late Irving E. Rathbun Sr. and Sarah (Newton) Rathbun.

 

Mr. Rathbun had been a Methods Engineer at Harris Corporation formerly C.B. Cottrells for over 40 years before retiring in 1977.

 

He enjoyed gardening and wood working.  During his retirement he built many Wooden Clocks to which he gave to his close friends and family.

 

He was an avid amateur radio operator his call sign was K1ZNQ, volunteering his time to local events as needed in Civil Defense.

 

A member of the Pawcatuck Lodge #90 AF & AM Masons now Coastal #57 AF & AM for over 50 years.

 

Mr. Rathbun was a Veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy 90th Seabees in Pearl Harbor and Iwo Jima in the Philipines, until the war ended.  He was a life member of the VFW Post 4513.

 

Harold was also a Quarter Century Club member of Harris Graphics and will miss this years meeting.

 

Survivors include his sons Harold E. Rathbun Jr. of Wisconsin and Phillip E. Rathbun of Pawcatuck, and his 4 daughters Alice Frizell of Westerly, Susan Lamphere of Westerly, Ruth Walters and son-in-law Bud Walters of Pawcatuck.  He also leaves his sisters; Ester Palethorpe of Barrington RI, and Barbara Sandri of Mystic, CT, and 18 grandchildren, 21 greatgrandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his daughter, Jacqueline Walker and a brother Irving Rathbun Jr.
