Harold Brown Bixler October 8, 1926 – October 2, 2016
Bix, as he preferred to be called, lived a full active life until a month before he passed away.
He grew up the youngest son of Paul and Sarah Bixler on a farm outside of Canton, Missouri along the Mississippi River during the Depression.
As a 17 year old he enlisted in the Navy to serve in the last years of WWII. He proudly served his country as a naval seaman, 1st class aboard a Liberty Ship in Admiral Halsey’s Third Fleet.
He married Virginia Lou Raymond and graduated from Drake University receiving honors & awards. During those college years, he worked in a local Furniture store working his way from Stock Boy to Sales Associate. He was soon offered a State of Texas Sales Rep position by a major Furniture Manufacturer and moved to Richardson, Texas.
Over the years, Bix built a thriving business in Dallas which provided for his wife and two daughters, Valerie Leigh and Victoria Lynn. To say that he was a workaholic is not an understatement. He was involved in building First United Methodist Church in Richardson and was actively involved with the Dallas Metropolitan Ballet as a Guild Member.
He was an entrepreneur in the Furniture business as a sales rep, owner, distributor, importer and manufacturer. Bix worked right up until his last month.
Fanatical about working out, he joined the Cooper Aerobic Activity Center in its first year and was an active member until his death. He even completed a full marathon or two in his 50’s.
Bix was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia L. Bixler, and his only brother, Wayne H. Bixler. He is survived by his daughters, Valerie Leigh Bixler and Victoria Lynn Bixler, granddaughter, Larkin Marie Gill, sisters-in-law Judy Bixler and Constance Raymond as well as 5 nieces and nephews.
