Harold Asher Lehman, Jr. (Hatch), a resident of Burlington Township for 61 years, died peacefully at home on Sunday, September 19th, 2010. He was 84. Hatch quit school to join the Navy at 17 years old and served in the South Pacific during World War II from 1944 to 1946, and finished high school upon his return. He retired from PSE&G Mercer Generating Station after 31 years of service. He was a past member of the Red Dragon Canoe Club, and loved sailing with his brothers as a boy; and with his children and grandchildren on his sailboat “Josie II” in his later years.

He loved traveling and cruising the world with his beloved wife, Josie. He also loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Hatch was very active in the Fire Department, and was a Lifetime Member of Independent Fire Company No. 1 and served as Fire Chief in 1964; a member of the Burlington Township Relief Association and President from 1965 to 1983; a member and Past President of the Burlington County Exempt Association; a member and Past President of the Burlington Township Exempt Association; a member of the Burlington County Fire Chief’s Association; and a Life Member of the NJ State Fire Chief’s Association. He was a Master Mason and member of Burlington Lodge No. 32; a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite; a Shriner with Crescent Temple and Past President of Burlington County Shrine Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edith and Harold A. Lehman, Sr., his son James; and brother Robert. Hatch is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Josephine; his beloved children Cindy (James) Punk, Mary (Terry) Field, Patricia (Richard) Ghaul, all of Burlington Township; Stephen (Jodi) Lehman of Delran; his grandchildren Matthew, James and Joseph Field; Gina, Michael and Kelly Lehman, and Raymond and Genna Ghaul; brothers John of Fort Myers, FL and Frank of Merchantville, NJ; brother-in-law Patrick Sherwood of Burlington, NJ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
