H. Stuart Houston died on November 7, 2005, almost 98 years after his birth on November 28, 1907. He was born in Hereford, Arizona the only child, to William and Katie Houston. Stuart attended schools in Arizona and California. He believed in the value of a life of service to others. He participated in community activities which included Civitan, Hospice, the Flagstaff Symphony Board, the church families of the Episcopal church of the Epiphany, and the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church. He was a long time chairman of the Coconino County Zoning Committee. He especially enjoyed working with youngsters during the 45 years as a 4H leader of The Tall Pine Aggies Club. He was a past recipient of the Flagstaff Citizen of the Year Award and the Golden Baton Award by the Flagstaff Symphony.

Mr. Houston continued his community activities until he had problems with his vision and hearing which made his active participation impossible. He loved gardening and farming, and taking care of animals from dogs to dairy cows for many years. He was able to live on his own until 2004, when he began his last year in the loving and dignified care of the Olivia White Hospice House in Flagstaff.

He was married to Lucy Alice Parks in Flagstaff August 11, 1939 and they had one child Stuart Houston. He was preceded by both Lucy Alice in 1985 and Stu in 1994. His surviving family includes grandson Christopher Houston (Stacy) and great grandson William, granddaughter Michelle (John), and great granddaughter Hailey. He is also survived by his daughter Vassie Speer of Mesa, Az. and granddaughters, Liesl Long and great granddaughter Sierra of Chandler, Az., Gretl Blodgett (Al), and Maechen Sanera of Gilbert. He also is survived by a cousin Betty Allcock of Nottingham, England.
