Dale Brubaker passed away peacefully with his beloved Sister, Mary Lou Zigler, easing his stress and pain with her love and companionship, on Tuesday, July 1, 2014.  She always said she was “just repaying a debt” she incurred when her big brother, Dale, helped raise her after their Mother had passed at an early age the better part of a century ago.  Howard Dale Brubaker wanted to minister to the needs of people and did so for around three-quarters of a century; age and the weaknesses it brings were the only things that prevented his ministry.

Serving the Lord was never lucrative, so he also took other employment to support his devotion to God and his fellow humans.  He worked at Chevrolet Gear in Muncie and retired after 25 years.  Although he was building transmissions, he was known there as “Preacher” and many sought him out for counsel and for prayer as they faced crises in their lives.  First, last and always Dale ministered to the needs of others and joined with them in prayer as they faced life’s struggles.

Dale came to life on March 27, 1916 in Howard County, the first child of John Ezra Brubaker and his wife, Orpha Mae Brubaker nee Thompson, on their small farm west of Kokomo.  He was joined by Lloyd Francis Brubaker, who passed about three years ago, Russell Wayne Brubaker, who lives just outside of Marion, Indiana, and Mary Lou Zigler nee Brubaker, of Dunkirk, Indiana.  Dale graduated from high school in La Fontaine, Indiana.  He received degrees from Bethany Bible School in Chicago, and Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana.

Dale and Mary Helen Green, of Jonesboro, Indiana, joined in matrimony on December 21, 1938.  Unfortunately, Mary Helen passed 18 years ago.  But, during their life they raised Curtis Dale Brubaker (wife Debra) of Tulsa, Oklahoma and John Earl Brubaker (wife Janet) of Fort Collins, Colorado to adulthood.  Dales five Grandchildren and thirteen Great Grandchildren were always on his mind and in his heart.

His son Curtis Dale and wife Debra Brubaker raised Curt’s children in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  They are Curtis Dale Brubaker, II who is raising his children, Alan, Zachery, Schuyler, and Jordan in the Tulsa area.  Curtis’ daughter Christy Brubaker is raising her children, Zoe and Tanner in Muncie.  Curtis’ daughter Stephanie Brubaker is raising her son, Dalton, in Union City, Ohio.  Dale’s son John Earl and wife Janet Brubaker raised their daughters, and now live in Fort Collins, Colorado.  Their dauaghter Erin and her husband Stefan Price are raising their children, Elijah and Rachel in Fort Collins.  Their daughter Alyson and her husband Brad Johnson are raising their children, Caleb, Riley, Elijah aand Abigail, in McKinney, Texas.

Dale left so many relatives it is likely that any effort to recall every single name would fail.  His living Brubaker nieces and nephews include David Brubaker and his wife Lucy, of Pennsylvania; Judy Hendricks and her husband Chuck, of Florida; Linda Howe and her husband Ron, of Jonesboro, Indiana; Cheryl Banter and her husband Harry, of Marion, Indiana; Mike Zigler and his wife Lisa of Hagerstown, Indiana; Susan Smith nee Zigler, of Bluffton, Indiana; Roxanne Painter nee Zigler, of Muncie, Indiana, and Kathy Zigler, of Dunkirk, Indiana.

Dale’s living relatives from Mary Helen Green Brubaker’s family include a beloved sister-in-law, Betty Greene of Lafayette, Indiana; and nephews and nieces Bob Greene and his wife Susan, of Battleground, Indiana; Phyllis Joan Simpkins nee Loy, of Marion, Indiana; and Philip Loy and his wife Janet, of Upland, Indiana.
