Guy was born on March 19, 1929 in Newell, South Dakota to William and Elsie Youngberg. He was raised on the family farm and enjoyed spending time outdoors with his brothers and sisters. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he enjoyed a thirty year career and retired with the rank of Commander. During his career as a Communications Officer, he worked on several NASA missions, including Apollo 13. He served during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retiring from the Navy, he became a research scientist at the Naval Oceans Systems Center in Hawaii. He met his beautiful wife Lou early in his career during an assignment in California, and they later became parents to their three daughters. He called many places home over the course of his life including Guam, Ireland, Washington, D.C., California, Germany, and Hawaii, but eventually settled in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas in 1991. He was a devoted Christian. His faith and his church, Cibolo Creek Community Church, were very important to him. He was involved in the Men’s group and the prison ministry at Cibolo Creek, and he also helped edit the newsletter. He was an avid lifelong golfer, and played twice a week until he was 90 years old. He also enjoyed playing poker, working on his yard, and socializing with his many friends.

He is survived by his daughters, Lani Popp, Cindy Neeley and Kari Seguin; his grandchildren, Matthew Popp, Philip Popp, Andrew Popp, Hannah Popp Heimbaugh, Rachel Popp, Christopher Neeley, Jenna Neeley, Val Buena, Kalena Seguin, and Bella Seguin; and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty years, Lowana “Lou” Youngberg, his parents, three sisters, and three brothers.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the love and support shown to our father by Pastor Paul Wilson and the Cibolo Creek Church family.
