Gregory L. Taubert, 53, of Freeport, died Friday, April 25, 2008 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Born June 23, 1954 in Freeport he was the son of Lyall and Cecilia (Noyes) Taubert.
He married Ingeborg “Angie” White July 5, 1997. He was a graduate of Western Illinois University in Criminal Justice Administration. He worked for the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department for two years.
Gregory retired from the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Department after 28 years of service rising to the rank of Chief Deputy. He was a member and past Exalted Ruler of the Freeport Elks LodgeAn avid Civil War and World War II buff he enjoyed crossword puzzles, football, travel and watching Notre Dame and Cubs games.
Surviving is his wife, Angie of Freeport; his mother, Cecilia Taubert of Freeport; 1 sister, Patricia (Donald) Bennett of Plainfield; 2 nieces, Jennifer (Aaron) Berk of Aurora and Heather Bennett of Plainfield; 1 great nephew, Ian Berk of Aurora; 2 great nieces, Alaina and Halle Berk both of Aurora; his mother in-law, Helene White of Plainfield; 2 sons, Stephen Kentner of Freeport and Keith (Lucy) Kentner of New Jersey; 3 grandchildren, Annastee Kentner of Freeport, Kyle and Brennan Kentner of New Jersey; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father.
