Gregory J. Swiss, age 53, of Rome, passed away at home, April 6, 2015.

He was born June 1, 1961, in Rome, a son of Stanley and Barbara Herriman Swiss, and educated in Rome schools. Greg was united in marriage to the former Susan Ziankoski, on April 20, 1985 in Lee Center. He worked for many years with his father, Stan, at the Swiss Service Station. He also served for 26 years as a fire fighter for the Rome Fire Department, retiring in 2012.

Greg was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed spending time with those close to him at the family camp in Beaver River. He also spent many summers in Cook Inlet, Alaska, as a commercial salmon fisherman with his father and his brother Kevin. Greg was known for his long-lasting friendships and remained close to his childhood friend, Tom Knudsen. He was also known for his quick wit and ‘off the cuff’ remarks; anyone who knew Greg will miss his sense of humor.

Greg is survived by his loving wife, Susan; two sons, Tyler and Dustin; his mother, Barbara Swiss of Westernville; his father in-law and mother in-law, William and Lamoine Ziankoski of Rome; a brother, Kevin Swiss and Regina Rich of Rome, three sisters and two brothers in law, Virginia (Ginger) and Russell Thompson of Beaver River, Kimberly and Todd VanDresar of Westernville, and Valerie Swiss and Richard Lee of Macedon. He was predeceased by his father, Stanley Swiss.
