Grace Patricia “Pat” (Owens) Salathe, 83, of Greensburg, died Saturday, March 19, 2016, at New Haven Court at Lindwood, Greensburg. She was born May 23, 1932, in Kane and raised in Phillipsburg, a daughter of the late William Townsend Owens and Edith Grace Chilcote Owens.
She was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School where she played clarinet in the high school band. She earned her teaching degree from Lock Haven State College (now Lock Haven University) where she also played in the band and met her late husband, James, who was a member of the football team. Prior to her retirement, she was an elementary school teacher in the Greensburg and Hempfield Area School Districts. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Greensburg, where she was an elder, on the board of deacons and along with her husband, a youth director. Additionally, she enjoyed her bible study groups. A member of Hannastown Golf Club, Pat was instrumental in the development of the club’s Women’s Golf Association. She loved her boys and according to her sons, Pat was the best mother and would do anything for them. She enjoyed family trips to the beach and was an avid Penn State fan. She was also an animal lover.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James M. Salathe Sr.; two brothers, William and Robert Owens; an infant sister, Edith; and her grandson, James M. Salathe III.
She is survived by her two sons, James “Jim” M. Salathe Jr. and William “Bill” O. Salathe (Tracy), all of Greensburg; a granddaughter, Brittani Salathe; a great-grandson, Cooper; two sisters -in-law, Trish Owens, of Chambersburg, and Lois Owens, of Phillipsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
