WALLINGFORD – Godfrey Joseph LeTourneau Jr., “Junior,” 81, departed his earthly course on October 18, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Beloved husband of 58 years to Eleanor (Tanch) LeTourneau, Godfrey was born in Ashlin, Maine on July 12, 1937 to the late Godfrey and Edna (Goslin) (LeTourneau) Ellis. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Brenda (LeTourneau) Brown and her husband Kevin of Wallingford, CT; his son, David LeTourneau and his wife Sandy of Cheshire, CT; Kathy & Steve Manchester of Youngsville, NC, and his grandchildren; Joseph, Kelsey, Tyler, Kyle, Daniel and Thomas. He also leaves behind two brothers; Emil LeTourneau and Melvin Ellis, as well as many nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law who loved him dearly. In addition to his parents, Godfrey is predeceased by his son, Godfrey J. LeTourneau III, his sisters; Joanne, Joyce, and Anna-Jean and his brother Vic LeTourneau.
Godfrey served in the National Guard and in the Army as a Military Police Officer.
He worked for American Cyanamid for 43 years and Sears & Roebuck Co. for 25 years before he retired. Godfrey was the president of the Employees Association at Cyanamid, which sponsored scholarship awards, trips to ball games, and a Christmas party with Santa handing out gifts to all the employees’ children. He also belonged to the Fireman’s Brigade for Cyanamid. For many years, Godfrey coached Wallingford Boys’ Basketball alongside Wallingford Little League, even taking the All-Star team to win the State Championship.
