Godfrey Chauncey Loper Jr. passed away Friday, January 5, 2018 at Flagstaff Medical Center at the age of 70. He was born in Sidney, Nebraska on August 7, 1947 as the first born of three children to his parents Godfrey and Blossom Loper. He married the love of his life, Francine on November 30, 1985. Godfrey’s greatest joy was being with his family and playing with his two grandchildren Beckham and Ezra.

Godfrey grew up in Sidney, Nebraska and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Godfrey was a successful student athlete in baseball, football and basketball. Godfrey later became a competitive skier and enjoyed success there as well.

Godfrey attended Oklahoma State University, where he completed his Bachelor’s degree and became a certified public accountant.

Godfrey served honorably in the United States Army, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant during the time of the Vietnam conflict. Godfrey volunteered to be trained as a paratrooper making several jumps from airplanes. Godfrey later trained military personnel and saved American soldiers’ lives through his exceptional service for which he was ultimately awarded the Army Commendation Medal by U.S. Army General H. Moore.

Godfrey worked as a CPA in California to include working for Capital Records. Godfrey moved to Flagstaff, Arizona, where he became a partner and CPA with Nordstrom and Associates. Godfrey’s dedication and hard work provided his many clients with the best service.

Godfrey coached his son Matthew in baseball, basketball and golf and was a leader in his son’s Boy Scout Troop. Godfrey enjoyed camping, hiking and adventure, having a great respect for the outdoors.

Godfrey’s greatest gift was the love he gave to all those around him. Godfrey tirelessly served the community as a faithful member of the Bahai Faith, Big Brothers Big Sisters Board, service with the Salvation Army, a leader in the local Boy Scouts among other services.

Godfrey had a great sense of humor and lived each day fully. He had a gentle soul and could find a friend in anyone. Godfrey is survived by his wife Francine, son Matthew and his wife Ande, grandson Beckham, granddaughter Ezra Jane, sister Louise and brother David (Judy).
