Gloria Tincher, 86, passed away on February 11, 2022. She was born April 13, 1935, in Anderson, Indiana.
Gloria graduated from Anderson High School, Class of 1953, and from Ball State University School of Music obtaining both Bachelor’s (1969) and Master’s(1976) degrees. She retired after 30+ years as an Elementary Music Teacher for Anderson Community Schools and St. Mary’s Catholic School.
Gloria was a musician who shared her talents with many. As a young girl, Gloria’s excellent piano skills were evident. She began piano lessons at 10 years old and by the time she was 13 years old, she gave lessons to beginning piano students. She continued giving lessons throughout her junior high, high school, and college years. She completed the rigorous Sherwood Music School curriculum in 1952.
As a teen, Gloria accompanied choral groups and soloists. As an elementary music teacher, she produced musical programs each year that engaged and entertained her students, their families, and staff. Always the teacher, she began giving private piano lessons again. In retirement, she continued to share her musical gift at various places throughout the community.
Gloria is survived by her daughters, Denise (Andrew) Dodson Larson and Julie (Michael) Dodson Russell; sister, Brenda Nighbert Hardacre; grandchildren, Lauren (David) Larson Drescher, Alexis (Trenton) Larson Smith, A. Gavin Larson, Jake Russell, Grace Russell; great-grandchildren, Claire Drescher, Paige Drescher, Madelyn Smith, Wyatt Smith, Aubrey Smith; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Wanda Nighbert, sister, Sharon K. Etchison.
