Gloria Mazzucco Iadarola, 80, of Orange, passed away Feb. 21, 2018 in Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the wife of Ronald Iadarola for 47 years. Mrs. Iadarola was born in New Haven June 19, 1937, daughter of the late William and Angelina Riccitelli Mazzucco. She graduated from the Hospital of St. Raphael School of Nursing in 1958 and dedicated 37 years to St. Raphael’s Hospital. She spent most of those years as the director of the Operating Room, Short term surgery and the OB/GYN floor. She wrote an article, along with a colleague, on Cochlear Implants and won first prize in a national competition and published an article for AORN magazine about using a special pediatric holding area for pre-op children who would ride a tractor to surgery. She was asked to take part in the surveying of patient’s pain levels which was the start of the development of the national pain scale. She was instrumental in the surgical field and was thought to be “way ahead of her time”. Some of her passions included traveling with her husband and friends, following UCONN Women’s Basketball, and playing cards monthly with her long time friends. Her smile and laughter will truly be missed by all. Besides her husband, she is survived by a sister, Lucille Mazzucco Novella (Michael) of Orange; nine nieces & nephews; 18 great nieces & nephews and many wonderful friends. She was predeceased by a brother, William Mazzucco (Dolores Johnson).
