Guilderland – Gloria M. Basios Garrahan, 81, formerly of Spring Avenue Brunswick died Monday, September 25, 2017, at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center Guilderland, after a long illness.
Born in Cohoes, she was daughter of the late Peter Basios and Jennie Rosbury Basios and wife of the late James L. Garrahan. She was raised in Cohoes and resided in Brunswick for 30 years.
Mrs. Garrahan was employed as a packager at Tek Hughes in Watervliet for 30 years, retiring in 1998.
She enjoyed playing bocce at the Italian Community Center in Troy and was a member of the Troy Senior Center, the Tuesday Night Card Group and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Troy. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She loved baking cookies and her ‘mistake cake’.
Survivors include a daughter, BarbaraAnn (Lewis) Makinson, Loudonville; a son, Peter J. (Lucia) Fondano, AZ; her grandchildren, Ryan and Justine Makinson, Loudonville, Brooke Pike (Elliot) Williams, CO and Nicholas and Peter J. Fondano, AZ; a great grandson, Jacob Pike Williams; her sisters, Mary Matava, Cohoes and Barbara (Kenneth) Tomaro, Clifton Park and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and William Basios.
