Ms. Jewell Young, 68, of Newnan, died October 23, 2010, at her home. She was born April 20, 1942 in Meriwether County to the late James Albert & Willie Mae Wheelus. Ms. Young was a member of White Oak Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where she was a choir member and occasional soloist. She has worked in the insurance business in Newnan for almost fifty years, with the former Fisher Insurance and more recently with Matrix Insurance. Jewell was a truly loving mother and grandmother who united a family with children living in different locations. She loved to cook for her family and had a long list of specialties and family favorites such as fried chicken, coconut cake and chocolate syrup. Beyond serving her many insurance clients, she enjoyed gardening, sewing and meticulously caring for her home. She had a strong, deep faith in the Lord which guided and sustained her throughout her life. Survivors include a companion, Hudon Smith of Newnan; brother, Jimmy Wheelus and wife Jackie of Bowdon, GA; sister, Joyce Wood of Marietta, GA; sister-in-law, Joan Wheelus of Loganville, GA; son, John Young and wife Barbara of Arlington, VA; daughter, Tammy Smith and husband Joey of Sharpsburg, GA; grandchildren, Daniel Smith and wife Amanda, Heather Smith, Nathan Young, William Young, and Kathryn Young; a great grandchild, Thomas Smith; and many extended family members and friends.
