Ogden – Gloria Carol Jones Boren, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 4, 2021, of complications from a recent fall. Gloria was born on November 2, 1938, in Ogden, UT, to Elva Zina Rosdahl and Byron Jones.
Gloria lived in Eden until she was about 3 years old and then moved to Ogden with her parents and older brother, Stanley Jones. As a young girl, some of her favorite activities were bike riding, jumping rope, playing jacks and board games. She graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1956. She was a majorette for 3 years in Ray Minter’s Drum and Bugle Corps.
She attended Weber Junior College for one year. She married Arthur (Art) Boren on September 22, 1958. They had two sons. While Art served in the U.S. Army, they lived at Ford Ord and Fort Sill until his discharge in 1960. They returned to Ogden and lived most of their married life in Marriott-Slaterville. They were married 48 years until his death on October 6, 2006. After his death, she resided at the Colonial Court apartments in downtown Ogden.
Gloria worked at Defense Depot Ogden for 4 years and then worked at IRS as a tax examiner until her retirement in 1995. After retirement, she and Art enjoyed traveling. They made an annual trip to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas for many years. She enjoyed lunch with her IRS group following retirement. She was also a reading tutor volunteer at Dee Elementary School.
She enjoyed collecting carousel horses, reading and board games. She was a huge Elvis fan and loved her visit to Graceland. She loved baseball and basketball and was an avid Utah Jazz, Ogden Raptors and WSU fan. Watching her sons and grandsons in their ball games and other activities was a favorite pastime. She was the official statistician for the First United Methodist Church coed softball team for 28 years. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served as a visiting teacher.
Gloria is survived by her sons, Brad and Mitch (Brenda), grandsons Alex (Jennifer) and Travis, and great granddaughter, Lilian. Also surviving are her brother, Stanley (Susan) Jones; nephews David (Stacy), Matt, David (Staci) and Nathan; niece Melanie (Tim) Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and stepfather, Preston (Sandy) Sanders.
