Glenda Irene McKelvey, 76, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in Des Moines.

Glenda was born July 18, 1944, in Carroll, IA, to Vern and Freida (Lorentzen) Hartwigsen. She married Marvin McKelvey April 16, 1982, in Ames, IA. They made their home in Boone, and most recently resided in Leon for the past seven years.

Glenda was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Christian Church in Decatur City. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, baking, fishing, reading, and cheering on the Cyclones. Glenda valued education and was always seeking knowledge. She received her associate degree from DMACC and was inducted into Phi Kappa Alpha honor society. She continued her education at Iowa State and majored in special education. She loved seeing the world, including traveling twice to Kenya with Marv to visit family friends. Her greatest joy in life were her grandchildren. She had an enduring faith in Jesus and followed his message of caring for those in need.

Glenda is survived by her husband, Marvin of Leon, IA; children Cindy (Dan) Wohlenhaus of Garden City, KS, Brad (Emily) Slade of Spokane, WA, John (Amy) Ellis of Ames, IA, Erin (Charlie) Harris of Grimes, IA, Thomas (Stacey) McKelvey of Jacksonville, FL, and Christopher (Lisa) Rich-McKelvey of Ames, IA; grandchildren Zach Chaney, Evan Wohlenhaus, Katie and Ben Slade, Marin (Charles) Forney, Liam, Ruby, Stella and Judah Ellis, Will and Quinn Harris, and Owyn McKelvey; sisters Sandra Shepherd of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Carol (John) Whitney of Atlantic, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dean.
