He was born in Sandborn, Indiana on January 6, 1932 to Ralph B. and Thelma Pauline (McKean) Apple. Glen married Virginia D. (Arnold) Apple on November 27, 1955 and after her passing, he married Enid Rose (Trent) Martin Apple on January 26, 2013.
Glen was US Army veteran, serving in the Korean War.
