Gladys Selena Dalton Giles, 98, died Sunday, February 20, 2011 in Roman Eagle Memorial Home where she had been a resident for four years. Born February 16, 1913 in the Sycamore community of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Anslum Tazwell Dalton and the late Havana Jane Shelton Dalton. She was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church for over 60 years where she was a member of the Chapel Bible Class and the Circle 9 Club. She retired from Dan River Mills with over 28 years of service and was a member of the Dan River Mills Retirees Club. She is survived by her daughter, Bettie Giles Rigney of Danville; her son, Calvin Giles of Blairs, her sister, Gloria D. Gosney of Danville, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Dorothy Giles Smith, her sisters, Estelle D. Wilson, Irma Dodson, Mag D. Mills and Lucy Phyllis D. Mills and her brothers, Acie L. Dalton, James Pyrtle Dalton and Marvin B. Dalton. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville with the Rev. Freddy Vicks, the Rev. Walter Yancey and the Rev. Daniel Custer officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park, Danville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and at other times will be at the son’s residence, 4340 U. S. Hwy 29, Blairs, VA.
