Gladys Perez Garcia, aged 93, of Niceville, Florida passed away peacefully on Friday, March 11, 2022.

Ms. Garcia was born in Havana, Cuba in 1928 to Ramon Perez Coto & Maria Luisa Guillen Perez.  In 1961, Ms. Garcia became a Cuban refugee to the United States of America pursuant to religious freedom and opportunities.  She embraced her American freedom whole-heartedly and became the most patriotic citizen!  However, after becoming an American citizen, she maintained her pride and patriotism for Cuba.  She taught her children and grandchildren lessons about their Cuban heritage.  Known to her grandchildren as “Pio Pio”, Ms. Garcia was quite fond of birds.  She loved to watch them fly and flutter in her yard and, decorated her home’s interior with birds, as well.  Ms. Garcia embraced her faith in Christ and was an ardent Catholic.  Because of her deep faith, she believed the family was the most important aspect of life.  Upon retirement, she and her husband moved from Astoria, New York to Naples, Florida because of their shared love of the beach.

Ms. Garcia is preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, and her husband of sixty years, Mr. Manuel A. Garcia, who passed away in 2009.  She is survived by a brother, Eduardo Perez (who is still in Cuba); son Roberto Garcia (Ely) and daughter Maria Elena Garcia; grandchildren, Robert A. Garcia (Don), Michelle M. Garcia Lefont (David), Carlos M. Pubillones (Monica), and Jose Pubillones (Gabi); and two great-grandchildren, Antonio & Ambrose Pubillones.
