Gilbert McKay Thurston (Mac) lost his battle with cancer on January 7, 2012 with his loving family beside him. Mac was born in Detroit on May 23, 1933 and adopted by loving parents Gilbert M. and Lucille Thurston who loved him dearly. Mac married Wilma M. Andrick on April 23, 1978 in Saginaw and she survives him at their family home in Albright Shores.

Mac went to school at Redford School, Leelanau School, Albion College and Detroit School of Law, of which he specialized in Real Estate Law. He moved to Saginaw where he worked at Burton Abstract and Title Company for several years and started Northern States Title Corporation and was subsequently purchased by Metropolitan Title Company in 1997. Mac retired in 1999 but stayed active in the Title Insurance business by doing research work for various title companies. Mac was a member of the Saginaw Home Builders Association, Saginaw Board of Realtors, Midland Home Builders Association, Midland board of Realtors, Michigan Bar Association, National Bar Association and the Midland Exchange Club.

Loving husband , father, grandfather and great grandfather to: Daughter Sandy (Brian) Merrill of Saginaw and sons: Kenneth and Bert Thurston of Georgia, step sons Rick (Janine) Marchington of Beaverton, Tim McGrath of Port Austin, Chris (Amy) McGrath of Port Hope, Dave (Gwen McGrath of Missouri. Grandchildren: Mike & Mark Merrill, Justin Marchington, Kayla Marchington, Katie McGrath, Kelly (Joseph) Henderson, Keenan (Dana) McGrath, Patrick McGrath, Dustin McGrath, MacKenzie McGrath, Erin (Adam) Heitzenrater, Max McKay Thurston, Nikki Thurston and Mandy Thurston and also survived by four great grandchildren.

Mac is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Beverly Small of Texas, Paul and Nancy Andrick of Hope, Jim & Betty Andrick of Hope, Floyd Andrick Jr. of Midland and Dale Andrick, deceased. Mac is survived by his former wife, Nancy Thurston of Port Austin and many close friends, nieces, nephews and grand nephews and nieces. He will be missed by many special friends: Ian, Tom, Don, John, Russ Alan, Larry, “brother” Dave and mike Tuite, who Mac and Willie ‘adopted’ and his family in turn adopted them.
