Gilbert “Gib” Sandven, age 89 of Humboldt, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. Gilbert Donald Sandven, the son of Levi and Pearl (Behrens) Sandven, was born on November 27, 1931 in Humboldt, Iowa. Gib graduated from Humboldt High School in 1949. After high school he attended GI School before enlisting in the United States Army. Gib served in the Korean War as a Radio Communication Tech.

On November 14, 1954 he was united into marriage to Joanne Elizabeth Edge at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. The couple began their life together on a farm east of Humboldt. Farming and raising cattle were Gib’s passion. Gib was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, National Cattlemen’s Association, Farm Bureau, Pork Producers and lifelong member of the Humboldt Sather’s Odgaard VFW Post #5240. Gib enjoyed being a 4-H leader, fishing, watching wildlife and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his sons, Douglas (Leisa) Sandven of Humboldt and Steven (Charlene) Sandven of Humboldt; six grandchildren, Craig (Cindy) Sandven, Tyler (Michelle) Sandven, Brandy (Cody) Mayall, Brittany (Reed) Caryl, Chelsea (Dylan) Peters and Skyler Sandven; eleven great grandchildren, Taylor and Braden Sandven, Sydnie, Rylie, Kylan and Kynlie Sandven, Alexis and Owen Mayall, Carson and Piper Caryl and Xander Peters and a sister, Sharon (Peter) Saul of Rowlett, Texas. Gib was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joanne in 2007; sister, Dorothy Ricklefs and brothers, Marvin and Lowell Sandven.
