Dale Gieske, 82, born in Detroit Michigan, August 20, 1932, passed away January 19, 2015 in Fountain Hills, Arizona. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Dale was preceded in death by his wife Janice, and is survived by his sons Glen and Paul Gieske, and his grandchildren Ann, Kathy, Susan, Olivia and Alan.
Dale graduated from Clinton High School in Michigan in 1950 and joined the US Coast Guard in 1953. After bootcamp, he attended electronics technicians school and was stationed in the Pacific area and New York before he was discharged in 1955. Dale then attended Albion College in Michigan, where he met his wife Janice, and they were married June 14, 1958. He graduated from Albion with a BA, and then attended University of Michigan where he worked in the school’s Space Physics Laboratory, designing and building circuits for upper atmosphere rocket probes. After his graduation from U of M in 1961 with a BSE(EE), Dale, Jan and their two sons moved to Arizona, where Dale worked for Motorola until 1988. During his career he helped to design circuits used in early unmanned lunar probes, and manned Apollo lunar flybys and landings. He semi-retired to work part-time and consult until 1997 when he finally officially retired. Dale enjoyed researching family history, science fiction, traveling and the view from his own back porch. He is loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
