Gertrude W. Barnes, 96, of New Carlisle passed away on Friday January 26, 2018 at Hamilton Communities, New Carlisle. She was born on October 5, 1921, in Chicago, IL to the late Ted and Gertrude (Salzburg) Burgman. On October 4, 1941, as Gertrude Burgman, she married Russell Barnes, who preceded her in death on September 10, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a son, James Barnes and two sisters, Dorothy Nugent and Patricia Knupp. Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Rick) Nofsinger of Sandy, UT; a son, Russ (Paula) Barnes of Dowagiac, MI; a daughter-in-law, Rita Barnes; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was a parishioner of St. John Kanty Catholic Church, Rolling Prairie, a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, New Carlisle and was very active in a knitting club at Hudson Lake.
