Gertrude better known as “Gert” departed her earthly life and entered eternal rest on September 23, 2023, at the age of 91, at MUSC Kershaw Health. 

Gertrude was born February 26, 1932, in Boykin, SC, she was one of fourteen children born to the late Calvin and Rebecca Deas Pollard. 

Gertrude grew up in a loving Christian home. She was a humble person and wasn’t a woman of many words, but she let everybody know about her love for the Lord up until her death.

Gertrude dedicated her life to the Lord at an early age and was a faithful member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Rembert, South Carolina, where she served on the Usher Board, Missionary Society, Willing Workers, and Gospel Choir. 

She was married to her beloved husband Albert Johnson Jr. for 48 years who preceded her in death. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, one sister Rebecca Pollard, and four brothers, Leroy, Calvin Jr., Isaac, and Frank Pollard. One daughter-in-law, Gwen Johnson, great-granddaughter, Ki’Asia S. Grant; one great-great grandchild, Baby Grant; and her beloved cat, Gracie. 

She leaves to Cherish her fond memory, grieve her passing, and celebrate her homegoing, two sons, Richard and Albert Johnson of Camden, SC; six grandchildren, Pearlean S. McLeod of Rembert, SC., Courtney Johnson, Ashley Rose, Danielle Variance, Joshia Turner all of Sumter, SC, Craig (Patrice) Moses of Dallas Georgia; two great-grandchildren, Jerelle L. Grant (Kiera Frink) and Zav’Avrion Z. Brunson; one great-great-grandchild, Kaisley S. Grant; six sisters, Jessie (Charles) Lloyd of Spring Hill, SC, Margie (Grant) Beaufort, Earnestine Dubose, Patricia Pollard, Delphine Moses, and Mary Pollard all of Camden, SC;three Brothers, William (Bernice) Pollard, Dr. Richard (Barbara) Pollard all of Hillside, NJ and John (Diane) Pollard of Camden, SC; special nephew, Harvin Pollard of the home; three sisters-in-law, Elaine Pollard, Rev. Mammie Adamson, Blanche McClendon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
