Mrs. Matthews passed away early Tuesday afternoon February 18, 2014 at New Hope Valley Assisted Living in Saginaw at the age of 99 years. The daughter of the late Rudolph and Emma (Timm) Treiber was born September 29, 1914 in Munger, Bay County, MI and has resided here all of her life. She was the eldest member of the First Church of the Nazarene, retired from Sears and Roebuck and Sam’s Brothers. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed gardening and was a hard working person.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law; Howard and Wilda Matthews of Bay City, two daughters and one son-in-law; Marge Smith of Bay City and Lorraine and Robert Budill of Lake Villa, IL, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and her nieces and nephews. On June 23, 1934 she married Gerald Matthews and he preceded her in death in 1956. She was also preceded in death by one son-in-law; Ron Smith, three brothers; Howard Treiber , Rudy Treiber and Verner Treiber and two sisters; Madeline Treiber and Mildred Moore. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her special friends; Nancy, Verna and all of the other caregivers at Rachael Sovereign Home and New Hope Valley Assisted Living for the kind and loving care they provided to Mrs. Matthews during the time they cared for her.
