Gertrude I. Lundborg “Grandma Gert”, age 99 of Crooked Lake, passed away at home surrounded by her family on June 20, 2021. She was born May 11, 1922, in Mattawan, Michigan, the daughter of George and Hazel (Hawley) Edgerly. Gertrude was a 1941 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School.

She worked at Kalamazoo Stove Company and later retired as a line worker at Sutherland-Brown Paper Manufacturing. Gertrude was a longtime member of Mattawan Community Church, where she had been a member of the Martha Guild. She married Melvin Johnson, and together they had three children. Melvin preceded her in death in 1998. In 2000, she married Luther Lundborg, who preceded her in death in 2008. Gertrude has wintered for 38 years in the Tampa Bay, Florida area.

She was known for her shuffleboard skills and made many friends on the court. Her time living on Crooked Lake gave her and her family many wonderful memories. These include her water-skiing at the age of 83 and tubing at the age of 90. Gertrude had a noble work ethic which led to a long and full life.

Her family includes her children: Phillip and Louise Johnson and Barbara and Daniel Moyle; her 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Ron Papesh; her husbands Melvin and Luther; her brothers and sisters, Mildred Newhart, Melvin Edgerly, Frank Edgerly, Hubert Edgerly, and Alice Scott.
