COLLINS – Gertrude “Honey” Veniqua Collins, 82, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 22, 1926 in Winsted, CT; the daughter of the late Willis and Beatrice (Heath) Calder. During high school, she worked as a Nurses’ Aid until graduating from the Gilbert School. She then worked at Gilbert Clock and later for G.E. in Norfolk until they closed. In 1982, she returned to school to earn an Associates Degree graduating with her son and grandson. She retired from B & D in Canaan. She was not only a member of the Church of Christ in Norfolk, but she taught Sunday school and volunteered for many odd jobs around the church. She was also a member of the Spanish American War Veterans. Mrs. Collins is survived by her son, Jim Collins and his wife Claudia of Norfolk; her sister, Dolores Mannion of Norfolk; five grandchildren, Michael Collins, Christopher Collins, Donald Collins, John Calder, Jr. and Ann Marie Calder; 7 great grandchildren; two nieces, Nancy Deborah Decker and Prudence Hazzard; and 10 great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Willis Calder; her nephew, Dennis Belle-Isle and her son, John Calder, Sr.
