Gertrude E. Mickanis died June 21, 2016 at Amerisist Assisted Living in Warrenton, Virginia. For the past 3 years she had been a resident of Arbor Terrace Sudley Manor in Manassas, Virginia. Mrs. Mickanis was born on September 20, 1918 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Ernest J. and Laura M. (Kienle) Messer. Mrs. Mickanis was married to John J. Mickanis on October 7, 1939 in Stowe, PA. She attended Pottstown High School, partially completing 10th grade. She was employed for 5 years as a cook at the former Mt. Penn High School, Mt Penn, PA. She was a resident of Mt. Penn since 1948 living at 2511 Philmay Terrace, Mt. Penn. She attended Faith Lutheran Church in Mt Penn. She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Mickanis, sisters, Dorothy Messer and Hazel McDonald, brothers, George Messer, Gerald Messer and Clyde Messer. Survivors include her daughter, Judith A. Fake of Manassas, Virginia; three grandchildren, Robert Fake (wife Susan) of Clifton, VA, Laura Fake of Midlothian, VA and Andrea Offner of Bristow, VA; eight great grandchildren, John, Tyler and Daniel Fake, Noelle, Jacob, and Cory Hinson, Dylan and Madison Offner; one brother, Frederick Messer.
