Geraldine Marie Gagel, 87, of Jacksonville, IL, and formerly of Louisville, KY, died Monday, August 10, 2009, at Barton W. Stone Home in Jacksonville. Geraldine was born December 25, 1921, in Columbus, IN, the daughter of Dillard and Hazel Marie Fitzgerald Beatty. She married Charles Gagel in 1970, and he preceded her in death in 1999.
She is survived by three daughters, Diana Olinger (husband, Glenn) of Jacksonville, Bobbie Petty (husband, Larry) of Sarasota, FL, and Lanna Perrault (husband, Tom) of Columbus, OH; one son, Stephen Hurst (wife, Jan) of New Albany, IN; and one stepson, Charles Wayne Gagel (wife, Bobbie) of Meridian, ID; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred; and three brothers, Bob, Howard and Richard.
Geraldine enjoyed playing cards at the Fairdale (KY) VFW Post, and visiting the Casino in New Albany. One of her joys in Jacksonville was volunteering at Passavant Area Hospital. While at Barton Stone, she enjoyed playing Bingo and reading. She especially appreciated the books delivered by the Jacksonville Public Library.
