Geraldine “Geri” Hinojosa, 78, was called upon by Our Lord on the morning of December 11, 2012.

Geri was born to Gilberto and Aurelia Garcia in Etiwanda, CA on July 26, 1934.

She was a county resident for over 45 years. She moved here with her husband of 56 years, Carlos Hinojosa. Here is where they decided to raise their family and make their life.

They were married on July 20, 1956 and through the years spent their time raising their kids.

Over the course of her life she did many things. She did agricultural work with her family up and down the state. Once moving to the county she was first and foremost a homemaker then one day she was asked to pick up a short shift as a recess monitor at her children’s school.

That turned into 18 years as a Para-educator and lunch duty supervisor–p at Will Roger’s Elementary in Ventura. She retired in 2002. During those years working at Will Rogers, she also picked up a “side job” selling food at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. She prepared everything from tacos and burritos at the Hispanic Concerts to hamburgers and hot dogs at the Flea Markets. She loved the camaraderie she had down there with “the girls” and made some lasting friendships that she had for the rest of her life. She worked there until 2004 when she decided her grandchildren were more important.

Geraldine was a woman of many qualities; her greatest were her quirky sense of humor and ability to tell you exactly how she felt. Geraldine had a way of “making a funny” out of absolutely nothing. She always had courage and strength even when things were their darkest. And she loved. She loved with everything she had. Geraldine gave every bit of love she had to her family. They are her entire world.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, Aurelia and Gilberto Garcia, sisters Nellie Gonzales and Adelina Bustos, brothers Gilberto Jr., Raymond, and Thomas Garcia.

She will deeply missed by her loving husband Carlos, her children Ralph, Benjamin, Rebecca, Sally, her Grandchildren Alexandria Hinojosa, Diego Hinojosa and Joshua Nicaud, her sisters Norma (Barry) Newman and Helen (Danny) Gracia.

She is also survived by numerous family members including many cousins, nieces, nephews, great as well as great-great nieces and nephews. 10:00 a.m. ,Tuesday, December 18, 2012
