Gerald W. Nortrup, 88, of Meredosia, died Monday, October 10, 2011, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born Nov. 12, 1922, near Meredosia, the son of John and Faye McAllister Nortrup. He married Marcella Bunch on July 7, 1951, in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by one brother, Farrell (Margaret) Nortrup of Stronghurst; one sister, Virginia Nortrup Hinners of Jacksonville; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Edith Barr Nortrup; and one brother, Garland Nortrup (surviving wife Shirley of Champaign).
Mr. Nortrup was a 1939 graduate of Meredosia High School. He worked at CIPS in Meredosia for 38 years, retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of the Meredosia American Legion. He enjoyed racing field trial dogs and standard bred horses.
