Anderson-Gerald M Burnett, 79, of Anderson, passed away on August 2, 2012.
He was born on December 11, 1932 in New Castle, Indiana, the son of George and Lulu Barkdull Burnett. His family moved to Middletown at an early age and Gerald graduated from Middletown High in 1951 and Marion College in 1957 with a degree in Religious Studies. Gerald felt a passion and calling for small rural churches. He served 4 ½ years at Allen Bethel Church and 2 years at Ovid Community Church, serving under the leadership of John K. Summers. In the fall of 1966, Rev. Burnett went to Markleville North Christian Church to “help out” and served the Markleville Church and Community for 35 ½ years before retiring in 2001. Following a small retirement, Pastor Burnett served as the Pastor of Visitation for 7 years at North Anderson Church of God and Madison Park Church of God. Gerald was also employed for 33 years as a computer programmer for General Motors.
Gerald is survived by his loving spouse whom he married June 6, 1952, Phyllis Myers Burnett, of Anderson; daughter, Cherie Greg Ritz of Pendleton, son, Jay Kyra Burnett of Pendleton; brother, Don Burnett of Anderson and brother, Jim Sylvia Burnett of Denver, CO, grandsons, Adam Tara Ritz, Dustin Ritz, Travis Burnett, and Tyler Burnett. Also surviving are three step grandchildren, Lauren Glover, Christian Glover, and Olivia Glover; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by father, George Burnett, mother, Lulu Burnett, a sister-in-law, Ruby Burnett and infant son, Timothy Dwayne Burnett.
