On August 17, 2021, Gerald L. Guiher Sr. “Jerry” was called home to the Lord, surrounded by family at
his home. Gerald was a devoted father and friend. His family was his greatest joy. Gerald is survived by
his four children, Dana Hernandez, Dena Smith (Joseph), Diana Hendrickson (Howard), and Gerald
Guiher, Jr., eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. He
was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Lehman (nee Block).
Jerry was born in Johnstown, PA to Ernest and Dorothy Guiher (nee Block). Maryland became Gerald’s
home in 1952, and he resided most of his life in the Marley Park area of Glen Burnie.
Gerald was a proud Vietnam Veteran who served in the Army. Gerald was employed by the Department
of the Army at Ft. Meade as a painter for many years. He later started his own painting business, “Mr.
Painter” which he owned and operated until his retirement.
Gerald was known for his kind heart, positivity and encouragement. His great sense of humor and
endless stories from “the good old days” made for great conversation and a lot of laughter. Gerald was
a music lover, notably country music of the likes of Hank Williams, Sr. and Merle Haggard. Gerald also
played guitar and did a little singing.
Gerald was of very strong Christian faith. His family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace with
the Lord.
