Gerald D. Ackerman, 66, Logansport, passed away at 11:58 a.m., Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, in Miller’s Merry Manor.
Born Nov. 28, 1941, in Waterloo, Iowa, he was the son of Hank and Lavonne Walters. He was married Dec. 18, 1965, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Christina Steward, who survives.
Mr. Ackerman was a retired manager at Wilson Foods. He had been a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army, having served in the Panama Canal Zone. He was a member of the American Legion Post 60.
He was a 1966 graduate with a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University, where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He was a member of the Iowa State Alumni Association.
Jerry had been active in the Logansport Soap Box Derby Association, where he served as treasurer.
He enjoyed camping, woodworking and playing golf.
Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Melissa Ackerman, Carmel, and Kurt and Darci Ackerman, Noblesville; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Jane Walters, Waterloo, Iowa; grandchildren, Elyse, Brooke and Grace Ackerman, and Olivia and Nicholas Ackerman; as well as several nieces and nephews.
