“Time for me to check out the stadium in the sky.”

Jerry Anthony DeFero, aka JD, aka The Dog, of Boca Raton, Florida, died from complications surrounding a heart attack on February 15th, 2022.  A shout-out to the woman in the limo who managed to steer to safety! (Thank you/Sorry.)  Jerry’s like, “You got this, girl!”

Jerry was born in Vineland, New Jersey in 1944 to Anthony and Jean DeFero, an only child.  Following a Marine tour of duty in Vietnam, JD pursued his interest in the hospitality sector, gaining experience in the hotel and restaurant industry across the United States.  Jerry established the Mississippi Sweets BBQ Company restaurant in Boca Raton, Florida in 1991 and subsequently expanded the operation into Lake Worth and Wellington, Florida.

‘To everything there is a season…’.

Meant football season to Jerry, Miami Dolphins!  He loved the game and his league of brothers and sisters even more, tailgating, stadium hopping.  NASCAR too; so when his wife set him up to pilot laps at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina, Jerry’s like, “Hold my beer!”  And whether she arranged a Carnival, Royal Caribbean or Norwegian cruise his response was always the same, “Get me another scotch!”

Jerry is survived by the many friends, colleagues and employees that made him into the truly one of a kind person that he was.

Jerry is survived by Linda, his wife of 46 years and by Bella, Jake, and Blaze – three rescue cats (of many) that Jerry eventually grew to love. “Brody, my main man, good to see you again!”

‘And a time to every purpose under the heaven.’

We band of brothers/sisters (!) in-law hope to meet your friends in Boca Raton soon, Jerry – to celebrate your life there; Karen (Steve), Brian (Annette), Garry, Diane, Lorri (Greg).
Linda (Bella, Jake, Blaze…)

‘A time of love… and a time of peace.’
