Georgia Lovelady Toepperwein was called home on July 13, 2020 in Bexar County near Boerne. She was born in Ironton near Jacksonville, Texas on July 15, 1923, to Milton A. and Mary Lane Lovelady who preceded her in death.

Georgia was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Texas. In 1945, she received her Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Texas Teachers College now known as Texas University. She married Lt. Clifton R. Toepperwein in Pocatello, Idaho June 2, 1943. They would have celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary this year.

Georgia shared the military life with her husband for 22 years moving from coast to coast and overseas. Life as an Air Force wife took her from Westover AFB, MA to Germany, Carswell AFB, TX, Fairchild AFB, WA, back to Westover, and upon Clif’s retirement from the USAF in 1963, to East Greenwich, Rhode Island.

Georgia had a passion for teaching. When Clif retired she launched her own career accepting a second grade teaching position in North Kingstown, RI where she taught 500 children over 20 years. During that time, Georgia furthered her own education at the University of Rhode Island and at Rhode Island College receiving a Master’s Degree equivalency. She was a member of the North Kingstown Teachers Association serving as treasurer and member of the board of directors for 18 years. She was a member of the RI Education Association and a lifetime member of the NEA. During this time, she wrote, illustrated, and copyrighted an instructional manual for teaching penmanship in the elementary grades. It is still used in RI today.

In 1985 Georgia and Clifton returned to their roots in Boerne. Georgia was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Genesis Sunday school class. She served as president of the Boerne Fellowship and as president of AARP. She was a member of the Rainbow Senior Center and served on its Board of Directors. In more recent years, Georgia helped establish the local Alzheimer’s support group while taking care of her husband, Clif, until his passing, Feb.24, 2012.

Georgia was as avid crossword, bridge, and 42 player. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, feeding the birds, and watching the deer and other wildlife in her backyard.

Blessed with a great memory, longevity, and the gift of storytelling, she gave the family a sense of meaningful, timeless connection to the past. She was loved by many who regarded her as the cornerstone of the family. Georgia lived a full life, loved by her family and friends, and will be remembered for her humor, joy, and generosity.

Georgia is survived by her four children and their spouses: Lynn and Dale Rogers of Levant, ME; Gary and Carolyn Toepperwein of Keller, TX; Robin L. Toepperwein of Hawthorne, CA; and Kim and John Marchwicki of Boerne, TX; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great great- grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Marilyn Toepperwein of San Antonio, TX, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Clifton R. Toepperwein, her granddaughter, Jodi Toepperwein Greer, her great grand daughter, Beth Anne Boucher, and by her sisters, Dorothy Hamilton and Beweeta Barnes. She will be especially missed by her family and dear friends, the Klobedans family of Boerne, TX.

Georgia’s family would like to thank Cibolo Creek Nursing Home for her continued care for the 17 months she resided there. She cherished her ”Breakfast Club” group becoming very attached to these new friends. The last two months of her life she resided in the most compassionate and loving home of Ioana and Ovidiu Siclovan. They along with Christina Walker met her every want and need. Her comment after arriving there was it was almost like heaven. We are truly indebted to this family for the outstanding care they provided to Mom. Many thanks also to Nurse Bobbie and Health Aide Christina from All County Home Health Care and Hospice. They managed Mom’s care and personal needs with professionalism and compassion. God truly blessed our family!
