George W. Benz, age 87, entered into rest peacefully at the Milford Health Care Center on December 22, 2012.  He is the beloved husband of Mary Logiodice Benz and has been an Orange resident for most of his life.  George was born in West Haven on November 14, 1925, son of the late George C. and Magdalene Andersen Benz.  

He was a graduate of West Haven High School and of the University of Connecticut where he earned his BS in Electrical Engineering, and later was employed with Southern New England Telephone for many years.  He was a member of the IEEE Society and was a professional engineer.  He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War.  George was a member of a bowling team, enjoyed playing golf and was an avid bird watcher. He cheered for the UCONN basketball teams and would listen to the Boston Red Sox games on the radio on the back porch.   He loved to spend time giving tractor rides to his grandchildren, while taking pictures of them.  George will be greatly missed.

He is the loving father of Deanna (Robert) Mancino, George W.(Judith) Benz, Jr.,PhD, Pamela (Michael) Cianci and Mary Ellen (Richard) Contois, and is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Nicholas (Megan) Mancino, Lauren Mancino, Amelia and Jeffery Cianci, Andre and Georgia Contois, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  George is predeceased by his sisters Madlyn Cretella and Ann Swords.
