WALKOTTEN, DR. GEORGE R. of Scotts George passed away Sunday afternoon, June 26, 2016 at Borgess Medical Center. He was born on May 23, 1932 in Kalamazoo, the son of George and Vivian (Yates) Walkotten. George was a 1950 graduate of Albion High School. He graduated from Albion College in 1954, before attending the University of Michigan, where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) in 1957. George was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he earned the rank of Captain and served from 1957-1959. George worked in private practice dentistry in Kalamazoo from 1959 until his retirement in 2006.
He was a member of and served on several boards over the years, including Kalamazoo Valley Community College, American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, Kalamazoo Valley District Dental Society, and Delta Dental. He was also a longtime active member of Kiwanis Club of Suburban Kalamazoo, where he also served on many board positions. On March 29, 1975, he was united in marriage to Joyce L. (Ellcey) Hill. Surviving are his wife of 41 years: Joyce Walkotten; three children: Tim Hill of Scotts; Ann (Scott) Miller of Florida and Robert Walkotten of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren: Nathan (Melissa), Clayton, Erica, Steven, and Alex; and two great-grandchildren; Bentley and Cayden.
