George (Bob) Hall, 88, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2013 at Moravian Village. Born in Arlington, NJ, on May 27, 1925, he was the son of the late George and Gladys (Hamilton) Hall. He was the husband of the late Patricia (McCormick) Hall. George enjoyed a 36-year career with the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, from which he retired in 1985. He was a member of Central Moravian Church of Bethlehem, where he served as President of the Board of Trustees and as a Sacristan. In 1943, George enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the European Theatre of Operations. He returned to the US for enrollment in the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps, studying at Colgate University and the University of Rochester. Following his discharge in 1946, he completed his college education at Lehigh University, graduating in 1949 with a BS degree in Industrial Engineering. George began his career at Bethlehem Steel in the Management Training Program and as a foreman in the Bethlehem Plant. In 1953, he was transferred to corporate headquarters in the Community Relations Division. He was named Assistant Manager of Community Relations in 1967 and Manager in 1977. Throughout his career, George was an active participant in many community organizations including United Way, American Red Cross, Rotary Club, Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce, Lehigh Valley Community Council, LVIP, South Side Housing Development, Presidents Council of Allentown College, and the Business Committee for the Arts. During his retirement years, he served as Chairman and member of the LANTA board for 25 years. He led the program for restoring the Gundy House in Bethlehem and was Vice-President of the City of Bethlehems 250th Anniversary Celebration. George truly loved Bethlehem and devoted his life to improving the community and the lives of the people in it. His presence in the community will surely be missed. George enjoyed traveling to the beaches of New Jersey and North Carolina where he taught his children and grandchildren how to body surf in the ocean waves. He was an avid Lehigh football fan and enjoyed maintaining contact with his Delta Upsilon fraternity brothers. Survivors: He is survived by daughters, Maureen Hall and her husband, Dean Flanary of Frankfort, KY and Jody Whitacre and her husband, David of Bainbridge Island, WA; long time friend, Esther Bauder, formerly of Bethlehem; grandchildren Noah, Merril, Kyle, Julie and Megan and 4 great-grandchildren.
