Obituary of George M. Tunison
TUNISON, George M. passed away at Covenant HealthCare – Harrison on December 16, 2013. He was 94 years old.
George M. Tunison was born on April 16, 1919 in Bay City to the late George D. Tunison and Belle (Spore) Tunison. He was educated in the Bay City schools. He attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, receiving a Bachelors of Arts in 1940 and a law degree in 1942. He was admitted to practice in the State and Federal Courts in 1942. He married Ethel Norberg, a former Law School graduate on April 4, 1943. He served in Counter Intelligence of the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps from 1942 until 1946 in WWII.
George was employed by the U.S. Government as a lawyer from 1946 to 1954 in Detroit. He established a law practice in Saginaw in 1955, then served as Chief Assistant Saginaw County Prosecutor during 1957 and 1958. He joined the law firm of Heilman and Purcell in 1959 and remained with that firm, known as Purcell, Tunison and Cline at the time of his retirement in March 1991. He served as President of the Saginaw Bar Association in 1972, and became a member of the American College of Trial Attorneys in 1975.
George enjoyed hiking in the western mountains and the Smokies. He also enjoyed fly-fishing on the AuSable River at his cabin.
He is survived by his daughter, Helen Klocko of Ocala, FL; grandson, Eric Klocko, of San Jose, CA; granddaughter, Kathleen Klocko and husband, Bryan Terne of E. Norriton, PA; nephew, Dexter J. (Terri) Tunison of Bridgeport; and grand-nephews: James and David Tunison.
He was preceded in death by wife of over 50 years, Ethel; brother, James D. Tunison; sister, Helen C. Tunison; and son-in-law, David G. Klocko.
