George M. O’Briant, age 87 of Sycamore, Ohio died at 10:00pm Friday, September 16, 2022, at home. He was born on July 27, 1935, in Springfield, OH to George and Flora (Hughey) O’Briant. He married Louise (Miller) O’Briant on February 1, 1959, and she survives in Sycamore.

Surviving are the following children, Katherine (Patrick) Jackson, Clayton, Delaware, David (Ann) O’Briant, Roanoke, Indiana, Melinda O’Briant, Loveland, OH and Patrick (Carol) O’Briant, Arlington, Virginia. He also is survived by eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one sister, Marjorie (Clinton) Wilhelm, Sunbury, Ohio.

George was a 1953 graduate of Northwestern High School, Springfield, OH and a 1958 graduate of the Ohio State University in industrial engineering. He worked twenty years as an industrial engineer for General Electric, Bucyrus, Ohio. George and his wife were market gardeners raising and selling produce at the Worthington Farmer’s Market, and he also was considered a master gardener.

He attended the Sycamore United Methodist Church and formerly attended St. Johns Baseline United Church of Christ, rural Seneca County.

He was a founding member of the Dutchtown Wheelman, New Washington, OH, was a passionate chess player, loved to fish, an avid cyclist, was a compulsive storyteller, former 4-H adviser, and was a volunteer for Backbay Mission rehabbing homes in Biloxi, Mississippi through the United Church of Christ after hurricanes and major storms.
